Sunny Days

It’s been unseasonably cool and rainy here in Maryland, so it seemed like a good time to brighten up Cookies For Africa!

I’m still hoping for an order of flip-flops soon. There are just so many fun ways to decorate them!! I did the shape of toe straps wrong this time. I think they’re better on some of these and will be more careful the next time.

I couldn’t really sketch these beforehand because most of my ideas were all dependent on the way the icing swirls. I made many extras because I wasn’t sure which (if any) of my ideas would work. Turned out that they actually all worked except for one, so the donor got a variety. :-)

This was a quick, fun order for an out-of-state recipient. Two more nets donated for those most at risk for malaria… thank you Stephanie!!

I am sitting here trying to figure out how you did those crisp yellow flowers on the bottom of the flipflops — those are impressive! Of course, all of your work is, but knowing the technique, those distinct flowers are especially cool!

Oh, I just did big wide circles of yellow flood into the green flood and then dragged in from 4 or 5 spots – very easy! I added a couple of orange dots in the middle, which you can’t really see in the picture. For the one larger flower I did a couple of concentric circles, then dragged in and dragged out – > just like the Starry Night stars and tried to drag two of the points down in a nice pretty curve. It looked awesome and I was sorry to cover it with the toe straps, especially since I didn’t like how I did those at all. The next time I think I would do the cool Hawaiian flower on the heel so it would be fully visible. Live and learn, right?!

I love the swirly suns! They are so, well, sunny-looking! And the flowers on the flip-flops are VERY impressive!

Thanks Diane! I never tried that technique to make flowers before you sent me that picture, so thank you! Your granola recipe is coming up next :-)

I was admiring the flowers on the sandals too! I was trying to figure out if you airbrushed them on before I read the comments. So impressive, Becky.
