This order was for John’s brother, Ted, who generously offered to advertise Cookies For Africa among his clients. He gave me complete freedom in my designs. I came up with an idea specific to his area of sales, sketched about 6 different cookies, cut them out, baked them, prepared the icing, and sat down to work with very high hopes.
As I tried one design after another, my hopes withered. What looked so cool on paper looked dreadful on the cookies. Even my supportive husband John, who is fairly easy to impress, agreed that I may want to rethink my designs.
Deep breath. I chose one cookie cutter and two colors – hence the “simple snowflakes” (especially in comparison to the 30 Snowflakes project)- and got it done without any undue stress on the family or yelling at my kids!!

The design is almost identical to this one (you’ll have to scroll down) on Annie’s Eats. (Check out the site at your own
peril. You’ll begin baking and won’t stop for weeks!!) That very picture inspired me to first try royal icing last March. I didn’t think I could ever do anything so beautiful, but I thought it looked like a lot of fun.

You know what I thought all Christmas season this year? Wouldn’t Christmas be a lot classier if Christmas colors were blue and white instead of red and green? I think Hanukah’s got that over on Christmas
