St. Patrick's Day GIVEAWAY

Update, Friday February 26th @ 1:15pm – The contest is closed and a winner is being selected. I will announce the winner and resume normal posting as soon as possible. Thanks for participating!!!

Who wants these cookies??!

I am trying to improve the “Seasonal” section on my left sidebar by getting sample sets up in time for people to actually order them for holidays. But with the “blizzard bulge” already making my pants feel a little snug, I certainly don’t want to eat all those sample sets myself! And, let’s face it, even if the donations are for a good cause, most of you can’t just throw $28 my way any time you see something you think is cute. So if I start giving away my sample sets, it’s a win for me and win for one of you!! I hope you like this idea as much as I do…

So, let’s hear it? Who should I send these cookies to? You? Your Irish in-laws? That good friend with whom you visited every Irish pub in your college town?

Maybe it’s time to drop a not-so-subtle hint to someone?

Is there someone who needs a little encouragement and to know that you’ve been thinking of them?

Or, like me, do you want to bring some GREEN instead of dreary, muddy, grey snow into your own home?

TO ENTER… leave a comment saying who you’ll have me send these to – just say “ME!” or “My girlfriend” or “My son’s awesome preschool teacher” or… whomever you want! No donation is requested, expected, or accepted. On Friday February 27th at noon, the contest will close. I’ll randomly pick a commenter and send the cookies to the winner’s choice. Shipping (or delivery if close by) is done by me; no cost to the winner and no cost to Child Alive.

IF you get these updates by email, you may not reply to the email! You have to leave a comment on the website. Click here and leave a comment where it says “Reply”. Don’t panic if your comment doesn’t show up right away – I’ve had to enable Comment Moderation because I get so many spam comments.
Let’s see who has the LUCK ‘O THE IRISH!!!!! :-) Oh – and tell others about the contest!

my AWESOME Irish husband. you know Dingle is a peninsula in Ireland!

    Kate says:

I think I’d ask you to package them individually so I could pass them out to all of my friends, neighbors, and any strangers I happen to run into as advertising. :-) Is that enough of a brown-noser answer to get me to win? :-)

If I was picking the winner, that would get you pretty far :-)

As an aside to anyone reading this – cookies are always packaged individually. Lots of reasons – they look cuter that way, they’re easy to put in a basket for display and as favors, it feels like you’re opening a little present each time you eat one, the bags provide a little cushioning to prevent breakage, and I put my CFA sticker on the back of each bag for advertising.

    Susan says:

I think the cookies would be perfect for my son Alex’s girlfriend Kathy who has not only stood by Alex over the past year and been a source of encouragement, strength ad healing for him but March 17th is her 1/4 of a century birthday!!

      admin says:

I forgot to mention in the post – I saved one of the large shamrocks to write a message to the recipient. So in this case, if you won, I could write “Happy Birthday Kathy” on that extra cookie.

    Diane says:

I would want them for ME, but I would have my kids take them to their Thursday classes to give away to their friends. I wonder if one of them would give the “kiss me” cookie to anyone…

  • 5
    Melissa says:

I would have to save one (or two) for myself–but these would be great to pass around to my fellow social workers–tasty and for a good cause!

  • 6
    michelle says:

yum-O! would love to have ready-made gifts for the sweet ladies who are always taking care of my kids at church and MOPS! great idea, becky, and as always: GORGEOUS cookies :)

    Annie says:

I would save a few for my son to bring to his teachers, and the rest I would give to my mother-in-law to take to HER school for advertising! (She is a teacher at a private school in Annapolis.)

By the way, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bright green! It made me smile to see such a beautiful green in the midst of the cold, bleak winter we seem to be stuck in!

    Lynn says:

I wish I could say I was giving them to someone else, but I would want them sent to ME!!! I would promise to share though. ;o)

I’m putting up that plug for your site today on my blog, so hopefully you’ll get some more traffic here.

    Akie says:

I’m glad Lynn kinda paved the way for me to say that I would want them for ME as well. Perhaps a kind wave would come over me and I would share a piece of one with someone that I care about. However, I know it’s not really fair for me to enter the contest since I’m family and could make people suspicious. All that said, I really just wanted to leave a comment and say how extremely talented I think you are and how creative your designs are. It really does amaze me.

The cookies will probably go to my son’s kindergarten class. OK, maybe some would stay here at home too. :)

btw … I got here through Lynn’s blog.

    Melissa Hab'Donnel says:

Becky, I would give them to my mother Marylea O’CONNOR Moore who freakin decorates a Christmas tree for St. Patrick’s day and gets up to drink Irish car bombs with her a party of her lady friends at 7 in the morning on St. Patrick’s Day! I’m sure she would bring them with her to enjoy in the Irish Car bombs that they partake in. :)

  • 12
    Alison Wall says:

I would send them to my sister and her wonderful housemates in Omaha! :)

  • 13

To my strong, tireless sister–who just brought a second little boy into the world!!

Man, I totally want to put one of these in my sons lunch and my hubby’s lunch and eat the rest with my girls at home on Sat Patty’s day. But part of me also wants to send them to my Irish friend who would LOVE them!!

  • 15
    Melissa says:

I would send these to my mom. Her grandfather, Peter Hegarty (Irish enough for ya?), came over from Ireland in the 20’s and worked his way from railroad truss hauler to civic engineer. Takes pluck. =)

  • 16
    Nicole Tebbano says:

My wonderful hubby, whose half birthday just happens to be St. Patrick’s Day!

  • 17
    Debbie says:

My youngest son, Sean! His first name is Patrick and his nickname of Sean was chosen in utero. He embraces his Irish heritage and these cookies would make his day!

  • 18
    Katy says:

I would give them to my sweet friend who has been helping me through the past 6 weeks of bedrest and constant puking! I just made it to 12 weeks and am hoping to feel better soon! But this friend (whose husband is Irish) has been such a blessing, this would be a great gift!

  • 19
    Emily says:

Fun site and idea! I’m a first time visitor. I’d give the cookies to my favorite ( & only) older sister. She has 3 little boys who would enjoy them!

  • 20
    Kristi R. says:

Hey, Becky! I would send them to my grandmother, whose family came from Ireland. (I’m also thinking she’d gladly share them with us.) I enjoy hearing from Kate occasionally about what you’re doing. Wow!

  • 21
    Kristen says:

I’d send them to my college roommate. She could use some encouragement right now!

  • 22
    Ginger says:

I would send them to a mommy friend who is always giving, but rarely receiving. So stinkin’ cute and fun!

  • 23
    Ginger says:

  • 24
    Courtney says:

I’d share some with Kirk, and take a few to share at the office… I could mail a couple to my best friends… I’d give one to Kirk’s mom and dad, and three to Christopher. And the rest are for ME! :-)

  • 25
    Irene says:

I’d eat them. Jeff would probably eat one or two before I devoured the rest. He’s no match for me in the sweets department. Oh boy, I hope I win…those cookies look GOOD. Is it weird I think green is a extremely appetizing color?

  • 26
    Jill Edelson says:

    Becky,
Thanks so much for the beautiful and delicious princess cookies for Malia’s 3rd birthday! They were amazing. If you are looking to unload a few cookies, we’d love to give them a new home in our bellies!! We’d also love to share them at church too.
    Thanks!! Jill

    Laura Hettinger says:

Pick me, pick me! I’m American, so that makes me Irish, right? I’d love to have some for myself and to share with my friends and family nearby. I’ll have them over for cookies and milk :)

  • 28
    Terri Wright says:

hmmmm. This is a toughie. Because like you noted—everyone wins. Those who get to indulge and those who benefit from the mosquito nets. I would say for those folks in my life who help me keep it all together—from my nanny Lizzie who makes my day work in the crazy mornings, to the custodians at my school who always seem to show up just when disaster strikes with my after-school messes, to my husband who comes home at the end of the week likely more tired than i am, but always has a moment for me. Any number of folks—while my world is not too big—it’s big enough to share a dozen cookies with some really deserving treats.

  • 29
    Elaine Meehan says:

I’d give them out to various people as a “Thank You” or an encouragement for friends who are stressed out.

  • 30
    Annie Mooney says:

    Becky,
The cookies look AMAZING!!!! You have such a gift!!! My cousin Dave and his family, you will love this story, even if they don’t win the cookies : )

I got to this good cause through Lynn’s blog. I would send the cookies to my daughter at college who is always looking for care packages. These would be a wonderful surprise for her and her friends at study time.

    Mark says:

This is a wonderful ministry, and your energy and spirit in doing it is a real inspiration to me. How great it is when we act in response to God’s tugging on our hearts.

In addition to being curious as to whether the cookies taste as amazing as they look, I too would delight in giving them away as free advertising to support your support of Child Alive.

  • 34
    Rachel Waller says:

Is it bad that I would want to send them to myself. With my last semester of college, I pretty much live in McKeldin library and exist off of granola bars and coffee. A little sugar might be just the ticket.
    Thanks
